Mechanism of Action

Dexamethasone is a long-acting corticosteroid that decreases inflammation, reducing the production of inflammatory mediators, suppressing the normal immune response, and acting as an antiemetic.

Indications (Uses)

Anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressant agent in the treatment of a variety of diseases, including allergic, dermatologic, hematologic, neoplastic (leukemias, lymphomas, and multiple myeloma), rheumatic, autoimmune, nervous system, renal, and respiratory origin; primary or secondary adrenocorticoid deficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia; management of shock, cerebral edema, and as a diagnostic agent.

Dosage Instructions

Oral: Administer with meals to help prevent GI upset.
If appropriate, may administer antacids between meals to help prevent peptic ulcers.
