Mechanism of Action

Ranolazine is a medicine used in combination with other medicines to treat angina pectoris, which is a chest pain or discomfort that you feel anywhere along the upper part of your body between your neck and upper abdomen, often brought on by exercise or too much activity.

Warnings & Precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you take this medicine if you have any of the following:

  • Mild or moderate kidney problems
  • Mild liver problems
  • Low weight (60 kg or less)
  • Heart failure
  • You have ever had an abnormal Electrocardiogram (ECG).
  • You are elderly.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

  • If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • You should not take ranolazine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding unless your doctor has advised you to do so.
Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including the following:

  • Alcohol (Ethyl)
  • Colchicine (Antigout agent)
  • Inducers of CYP3A4 (strong and moderate) and P-glycoprotein; e.g., Phenobarbital, Phenytoin,
  • Rifampin, or Carbamazepine
  • Inhibitors of CYP3A4 (Strong and moderate) and P-glycoprotein: e.g., Clarithromycin,
  • Erythromycin, or Ketoconazole
  • Digoxin (Antidysrhythmic)
  • Doxorubicin (Antineoplastic)
  • Grapefruit juice
  • Itraconazole (Antifungal)
  • Metformin (Antidiabetic)
  • Pazopanib (Antineoplastic)
  • Pimozide (Antipsychotic)
  • Sirolimus (Immunosuppressant)
  • Thioridazine (Antipsychotic)
  • Topotecan (Antineoplastic)
  • Vincristine (Antineoplastic)
Side Effects

Side effects with incidence 1% to 10% include:

  • Constipation, dizziness, headache, vomiting, feeling weak

If you take more Xinaro® than you should
If you accidentally take too many ranolazine tablets or take a higher dose than recommended by your doctor, it is important that you tell your doctor at once.

If you forget to take Xinaro®

  • Take it as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time (less than 6 hours) to take your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Contraindications
  • Hepatic cirrhosis
  • Concurrent use of strong CYP3A inhibitors
  • Concurrent use of CYP3A inducers
Storage
  • Keep Xinaro® at a temperature below 30°C and away from light and moisture.
  • Keep Xinaro® in the original container.
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date.

  • Xinaro® is supplied as blisters containing Extended-Release tablets.
  • The packaging of ranolazine 500 mg contains 60 tablets, and ranolazine 1000 mg contains 30 tablets.
